Malicious tactics (AAMCO Hooper Avenue, Toms River, New Jersey)

I have a friend who does repairs for my Honda Accord LX 2002 but apparently transmission repair is out of his league. March 6, 2020, I brought my car to AAMCO Hooper Avenue, Toms River, New Jersey and the first thing I asked was how much to rebuilt my transmission.

More or less had an idea how much it will cost because my uncle was a retired mechanic. My question was not addressed and instead the response was they have to look into it to find out what was the problem. Even though, I repeated many times that jerking is known to be one of the symptoms of transmission issues. Right there and there, I would like to find out so I can decide if their price is affordable or not.

If several thousands for the transmission then I would walk away and the next option for me was to buy a new car with all the safety gadgets. I find it impractical to spend several thousands for a 2002 Honda Accord even though it is a good car and well maintained.

To make the story short. Got a call the next day and 3 options were presented;

$ 5,500 remanufacture transmission with 3 year warranty

$ 4,500 rebuilt transmission

$ 3,900 certified exchange pre-owned

Dazed with the figure presented. If I decided to pull out my car I would pay $850 if I do so as fee for their diagnostic service.

Got no choice but to haggle for the least most expensive option.The General Manager put the certified exchange pre-owned from 3,900 to 3,500. The General Manager asked me what will make me happy and to keep me in their business. I haggled for $2,500 but we ended with $3,000. In addition, the General Manager even mentioned program about rebate.

Not a candidate for that program because I freeze my Social Security due to fraud. Nevertheless, he said that a $200 dollar rebate can be done to cover my tax plus $3,000 for the transmission. So we ended with this agreement.

The estimate sent to me was $3,129.00 so I called the attention of the General Manager that the agreed price was $3,000. Adjustment was done but the $200 mentioned to cover my tax was not given.

Since all your calls are recorded, would like to request AAMCO main office to review all the phone calls transpired between the General Manager, Luke H, and I.

It was clearly my understanding that a $200 dollar deduction to cover the taxes. All of a sudden the GM said it was for something else once the $129.00 was deducted. Phone calls were made from phone number 1 85* 872 ** ** March 7 from 10:08 to 12:08. For AAMCO main office, providing you estimate Q120499 for reference.

When you call a dentist to inquire how much it will cost for tooth extraction, cleaning, root canal, etc they are given in an up-front manner.

When I asked AAMCO how much it would cost for transmission rebuilt non was given. They knew from the start how much it cost (3 options) but that is how they do their business to keep you in a limbo and then present enormous charges at the end.

At the end, I was charged $1,186.80 for labor, $1,813.20 for parts, $100 for supplies and $205.38 for taxes. A total of $3,305.38 for a certified pre-owned transmission with a 12 month warranty.

Am writing this for others to have an idea how much the charges for the transmission and labor plus the shenanigans.

This way you clearly decide if to push through or buy a new car.

Another issue I have to face is how long the transmission will last. The warranty is only 12 months and if the issue of jerking occurred on the 13th month then goodbye to my investment of $3,305.38 for a certified pre-owned transmission.

Got my truck back from Aamco and it was backfiring a lot. Then I come to find out they never looked at the issue I asked them to look at while the engine was apart.... so I had to bring it in for them to fix what they were supposed to originally.to condense this I am going to just say that 10 times I had to bring my truck back and they couldn’t fix it. They kept screwing up more things than they fixed. I was told that my mechanic was not qualified to do what he was doing and finally he was fired.... which I don’t really care about except if u know he isn’t qualified why is he there working on my truck? what I care about is this....My alternator bracket was missing and left off my truck. A 5x9 inch hole cut in my bottom dash to access heater core instead of removing dash like you’re supposed to. My o2 sensor was being forced on to work because they got the wrong one and I went ballistic.... get the right part to fix it. He screwed up my new cap and rotor so they said they would get me another new one.... I asked for high performance spark plugs and they installed champions that are $1.99 each but they also installed high performance spark plug wires ..... if they were new they would have been great.... they were retreads and so was the “new”cap and rotor they put on.... My power door locks didn’t work when I got the truck back and there was nothing wrong with them before.... they “fixed” them but now one lock opens the opposite way of the other lock... because they said it kept blowing a fuse the other way.... if it worked before then make it work how it was....my windshield washer fluid was full when I brought it in and it was bone dry when I got it back and my engine was dirtier than when I brought it in.... my air intake was missing the parts to attach it properly and I mentioned all this stuff and they promised to replace the dash and after a month I got nothing....I opened up my distributor to see that my rotor was so old and used it could hardly run.... they didn’t even bother to hide it by cleaning it up Before they installed it. The other missing pieces were not taken care of.... spark plug wires were not routes at all and my separators were missing. was clearly oil in my coolant. I picked it up once and none of the hose clamps had been tightened and Ot leaked coolant on my customers driveway and I had to spend 2 hrs cleaning it up and they didn’t offer an apology. Once they had me pick up my truck and within a mile my master cylinder, which I hadn’t had a problem with, went out, my brakes went out as I was coming to a busy intersection and I missed a big accident by mere inches..... I can’t make this stuff up if o tried and have proof of everything..... He offered to rebuild my engine.... if they couldn’t fix this stuff what kind of moron did he take me for? I demanded a refund and they finally said ok.... but then he said he did this so I shouldn’t say anything about the missing parts.... huh??? These parts were part of my truck and had nothing to do with your terrible work o got refunded. I owe me these parts because I still had to take my truck elsewhere to get fixed.... which it was done in one day.... they said whoever worked on the truck should never touch anything bigger than tonka toy truck ever again.... they were so mad they wanted to call Aamco to tell them what a terrible job they did.... Now I want my missing parts and i am attaching the old parts they put on my truck.... I hadn’t even driven it 500 miles on these pics.... had I not been smart enough to check my cap and rotor I wouldn’t have caught this ...... Also after they had been paid the first time when it was supposedly done each time I brought it back they made me wait days at a token because they were doing jobs that made them money that day instead of taking care of someone who had paid them thousands of dollars .... that is so unprofessional. Even when I made an appointment they did this to me.

I have two incidents that I need to make people aware of. My first encounter was when I had taken my 2007 Chevy Tahoe in that was leaking transmission fluid and also had a low oil pressure light coming on. They did the inspection and found that my transmission needed to be rebuilt and there was also a leaky main seal that needed to be changed. They did the repairs but it took them almost a month to complete. Once the work was complete it almost took an act of God to contact them for the pickup of the vehicle but I finally got it back. The truck was running great until 6 months or so after. The oil pressure gauge was once again starting to drop just like before. Since the vehicle was still under warranty I hated to do it but I took it back to the same shop to check the issue. This time around I have had a worse experience with them. I took this vehicle in before Thanksgiving and it has been a living nightmare in trying to get a hold of them to find out what is going on. I finally talked to them a three weeks ago, and they told me that I needed some more work to be done that was not covered under the warranty. It's A NEW PROBLEM. I said OK and authorized them to check it out. Apparently I need something called an Oil filter manifold. Two of them at that. I called a Chevy dealer, and they say that does not seem right. But just to see how far they would go I authorized the work. They told me the parts would be in last Friday. Well, it has been two weeks later and I keep trying to get a hold of someone to find out what is going on but once again i am getting the run around. I talked with someone today and asked for an update. They said they would contact the shop and have them call me back. Well guess what. I am still waiting. It has now been a 5 weeks since I had my car. I hope that this note gets up to the corporate headquarters because this in not the way any business should run. I would like my car and money back... I pray that all Aamco shops are not this way

AVOID THIS PLACE

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I already put a review in google reviews. Today Im SHOCKED. I called only asking if they could have my car for Monday because I needed for work on Tuesday after I brought Friday because of a warranty issue. The manager answered yelling at me, it was intimidating I almost felt threatened by him. Im SERIOUS, I almost called the police. Im contacting the owner, as far as I know they have recordings in that in that place. Even the manager said that I drive them crazy for calling and I only called a couple times one day just to be sure the problem with my oxygen sensor which was deficient after they replaced it was under warranty which it should be. Before that, there was also another problem that they didnt fix right after paying 2500 dollars. IM TELLING YOU, the manager is truly a very angry man, and he said he doesnt need to talk to the customers and yelled at me for over a minute for no reason.. this was more than just yelling.... TRUST ME. Maybe discrimination for having an accent or my look. I dont know. Im waiting for the owner to talk to me. He is very nice and her secretary is super professional. They are not at the location which is also filthy and the manager seems not to care either. Likewise, he doesnt seem to care about customers and has no patience which is key in a business. It seems their business practice is not up to many other shops that I have experienced and I have had a great experience, like Meineke. The people who work at this Aamco are not professionals, in fact they can be intimidating even without trying. The manager specially can be more than just an abusivo behavior of yelling a customer over the phone like if here NOTHING and not even care when I said to him, that what he is doing can cause him his job because there are recordings in that location as far as I know and the owner told me before, because before there was also an Incident. They know what they did to me. And I hope the owner can listen to the recording and see by fact the way the manager Luke yell at me EVEN while I was being courteous just asking a question if my car could be done Monday even though I went there Friday, they said it couldnt be done. Now the manager sent a text saying to drop it not Monday but Tuesday I believe as a retaliation. So I dont have my car on Tuesday right after he yelled at me. and whatever it is Im warning people that this place can truly be not just a disappointment but you can be in shock of the way this man treats people who are courteous and respectful. Im not just going to contact the corporation but the triple BBB. Im afraid to drop my car on Tuesday because Im afraid of this same people being under the hood of my car. At least for now unless the owner gives me a reassurance because Im afraid to drop my car there while LUKE and others who knows people cannot trust after all I have been through in this place.... No one knows what they could do. How would I know? Where is the reassurance, where is the commitment, where is the professionalism, where is the understanding, where is the job of being a manager means? Where is what AAMCO should be about. Years ago I remember coming here with my dad all the time and it was such a different experience just like with Meineke.
