Ford Ranger transmission repair misdiagnosed, $2,800 lost | Aamco review from Lafayette, Colorado

Took my Ranger in to Aamco with a noise, asked if it was a transmission problem, they said "yes" need a total rebuild. Will cost $1,800 - $2,500. Went to pick it up and cost was $2,800, I said "what?", they said "+ tax of course, EVERYBODY pays tax". Whatever, paid the bill and realized then noise was still there. Did my own diagnosing and the noise was from a $25 broken anti-sway bar bracket. Went back really upset, the owner repaired that for free and gave me a free 3 year warranty, after 3 years the overdrive stopped working. Go figure. I will NEVER go to Aamco! Support local repair shops, do your homework of course!

I wasn't only duped, I was accosted and assaulted. This was probably the worst experience I've had in recent memory. Honestly, I still can't believe what happened. 2 years ago I had the transmission in my F150 rebuilt at this shop. At the time, I was debating...

Charging Aamco price but not living up to the name

I took my car to Aamco in Miami Gardens FL cause my engine light was on. I was told it was a computer problem with transmission and they needed to open transmission to check that would be $600 after they opened it the bill jump to $1600 cause now it need a new clutch they claimed. So now I can pay the $1600 to let them fix or the $600 for them just opening it an not fix. I was stuck up against a wall so I let them fix it. The day after I got out shop problem still there now it needed something else another $165. Almost $1800 later still same problem. I took to another Mechanic he said its the computer for transmission but how is that possible when Aamco claimed to change it. They are a waste of money and time.

Under skilled. | Aamco review from Pottstown, Pennsylvania

The owner mike fox has no clue how to opperate a transmission repair shop. He has no skilled techs and is not interested in finding any. He marks the parts up to more then half . He buys transmissions from junk yards, puts them in your car a charges you full price for a transmission overhaul. Dont beleive me just pop your hood and look. 9 times out of 10 im right. He does not even pay rent because the building has been lost to the bank, just go down and see the for sale. Stay away, hes about to go out of business. Just looking to take your money and shut down.

Thank you very much for letting AAMCO know I was sympathetic to your situation.

I am sure the owner needs to be counseled from Corporate in this matter. You are a valued customer and I appreciate the mention of the Manager.

I am no longer at that location or any other AAMCO..these practices that happen nationwide need to be addressed to insure the customer experience is as positive as possible.

We take out reputation quite seriously, so here is our response to these untrue accusations:

-I spoke with the husband, George, on 10/29. I offered EXACTLY what his wife asked for: A refund of what they paid us.

I said I would immediately refund their money back so long as I was able to speak with the Ford dealership they took the vehicle to so we could verify the parts were missing. After asking several times for the name of the dealership, George refused each and every time to give me the name of the Ford Dealership nor would he provide me a copy of his invoice showing he had to pay for the parts he claimed were missing. He would only say he would have Phillip, the service manager at the Ford dealership, call me. I have still not heard from Phillip.

I called the 5 Ford dealerships in our area, SW Ford in Weatherford, Auto Nation Ford, Auto Nation South Fort Worth Ford, Texas Motor Ford and Five Star Ford. Not one of them has a service manager named Phillip. I find it quite interesting that I offered the customer back over $300 with the only condition being that I speak with the Service Manager at the supposed Ford Dealership they took their vehicle to so I could verify the claim of missing parts and he dodged giving me a straight answer several times? Not to mention there is no Phillip working at any of the Ford dealerships in the Fort Worth area?

If George or his wife tries to dispute how the above referenced conversation went, I have the phone call which I would be happy to share.

-John the manager did call the husband asking why they left a negative review and were making untrue accusations against us. We take the reputation of our shop quite seriously, as should any business.

-The ‘outrageous price’ included all updates to the transmission, heavy duty parts (E250 van used for for commercial purposes) and a 3 year, nationwide, unlimited mileage warranty.

-All parts were placed in the box as requested by the customer. No parts were kept on our end

-Our rebuilder is the one that caught the wrong TORQUE Converter.

(It is not a TORCH converter as the customer says in her complaint). We immediately located the correct one and corrected OUR mistake before the vehicle left our shop. It stands to reason that if this customer was going to correct a transmission shop on giving them an incorrect part, would they not know what that part is called? -Our most junior employee has been with the company since 2012.

They are held to a high and ethical standard by the owner. No employee gave the customer Jason’s name and phone number.

Nor were they ever told this happens frequently because it simply does not happen with our shop. David B General Manager

Charged for a rebuilt transmission when the problem was a brake issue | Aamco review from Mesa, Arizona

My wheels locked up on my 2003 Subaru Forrester and was charged 2000.00 for a supposed transmission. Had the vehicle towed to Aamco on Country Club in Mesa for diagnostics. They stated that they would need to charge 500.00 to pull the transmission. I asked if it was a transmission issue they said yes. Picked up vehicle 2 weeks (apx) later and left after paying 1000.00 cash and financing 1000.00 Took vehicle back to Aamco after the problem persisted only to find it was a spring connected to the brakes called hill assist. They fixed the problem with the spring but did nothing to alleviate the 2000.00 charged initially. Each time I called spoke to Tony.
