Rebuilt Transmission Fails After 12,000 Miles! (They Refuse to Honor Warranty)

I had my transmission rebuilt at the local Aamco transmission shop and purchased the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. It took them four months to finish the work. Then, three months later (maybe just a few thousand miles tops) I already needed warranty work. They refused to cover the costs despite the warranty, but eventually, after causing enough of a scene, they did so. Now, about a year later (around 9,000 miles) something inside the trany has gone and it can't go past 50 mph. They are, once again, refusing to pay for the work; saying it's not warranty related despite the damage being INSIDE the trany. They are also saying that, all-of-the-sudden, I never purchased the warranty. When I countered this lie, he then said that I actually had a 12-month warranty. Their story and reasons keep changing but the underlining problem is their work is sub-standard and they continue to refuse to pay for the repairs to a transmission that they just rebuilt.

During the initial rebuild they did on my trany, their management changed twice. When I came back for the first warranty work their management had changed again. Now, when I went back for this latest problem, they have changed management several times since once again!! They keep changing management in order to refuse prior warranty work due to loss of paperwork, miscommunication, and boldface lies.

Not covered under warrantee (it's only been 6 months)

Hello, I have a story that I would like to try to make Public as a Consumer Report. 6 months ago, I received a job opportunity in Florida. At that time the transmission in my car had problems. I had Aamco in North Attleboro, Massachusetts rebuild the transmission for $3,387. The warrantee for this work is a 1 year warrantee. The transmission broke again and Aamco Transmissions has denoted that even though it's only been 6 months that they are not going to cover it under warrantee. I am being told that it will take at "least" another $2,200 out of my pocket (that was the minimum price)for it to be fixed again. Aamco told me that I drove 13,400 miles in 6 months and the warrantee was for 1 year/12,000 miles. I am appalled that a large conglomerate business like Aamco Transmissions will not help their customer towards the cost to re-rebuild the transmission. I am financially unable to pay anything towards another bill. I would guess that the initial transmission rebuild job was inadequate for it to only last 6 months. Aamco corporate also will not help me. Hate Aamco!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, sure I agree but you let it leak also and never checked your fluid and burned it up. We can not follow you around everywhere and check your fluid for you but would be happy to if you stopped by any Aamco or any service station for that matter.

We did ask the FL shop to give you a price consideration. I am sorry you had that experience. I know you think that Aamco is this big company but we are all independently owned and operated. So it's not Aamco, it's just me.

I know it doesn't help much but I wish it would have turned out differently. Again, I am sorry.

AAMCO worst place I've ever dealt with!

I took my 2002 Ford Taurus in to have it looked at because it wasn't shifting right. They originally told me it would be about 1900.00 to rebuild the tranny. The next day they told me that the electrical in my tranny was bad too so the price went up to about 2200 and from there it went up to about 2800! So, I couldn't get it financed so they help my car for two months while I made payments on it and paid it off the day I started school. I called them on the Saturday before school and told them I had the money to pay them off and they said wait till Monday because it was stored in the back lot and he would have to get it out. So, Monday I go to pay it off and they bring it up front and started it and got a bunch of codes that weren't there before so now they are going to fix it and have it back to me by the end of the day. I find out later that day that mice got up into my engine and chewed all of the wiring and so now it's going to be a couple of days! Well, here it is 9 days later and I still haven't got my car back! They supposedly have now replaced the computer, silinoid, all the wiring! I went in today and they said the car was ready...I made it down the road 4 blocks and the car wouldn't shift! It was doing the exact same thing it was doing when I originally took it to them and paid them 2900.00 to fix! So they still have my car! And also, the crooked manager tried to charge me 600.00 more that what I actually owed and thank goodness I still had the receipt that he gave me for previous two payments I made which he also wrote the total cost of rebuild on and signed it or I would have had to pay an additional 600.00! The manager is rude and crooked! He never returned my calls!

Don't go to aamco!!!

My wouldn't go into gear and the clutch pedal went to the floor. So I had it towed there Friday morning. They said it will take 1 hr to diagnose. I called around 3 and still nothing. Called again and again and nothing. Finally Saturday rolls in and nothing still. Monday morning I call and they said I need a new master cylinder, new clutch hose, new slave cylinder. I go pay 500 some dollars. And I get my car and there is shop rags in my car. I turn on the car and step on the clutch to test it out and this awful noise happens. I tell the service writer and he *** tells me, "oh well one of my techs should've told me what was wrong with it before... I can give you a quote to fix it.." I haven't even left the lot and this happens... Super pissed off... What should I do?

AAMCO in Pearl River NY

I took in a truck that did not need a new transmission, I had a new engine put in the truck and wanted the transmission rebuilt because I use it towing an RV. They gave me a price of $1800, I told them to proceeded with the work. The next day I recieved a phone call telling me that it was going to cost $4300 that he had forgotten about re-sealing the transfer case and the solenoids were very expensive. So I called Grand Prize chevrolet and got prices on the alleged parts.

Much to my surprise the parts were $235 for all four solenoids, they alleged costs thousands, and under a $100 for the seal kit. I confronted the owner and explained that he was trying to rip me off. He is a slick fast talking liar be aware. I was furious but wanted the job done right so I agreed to pay $2700 and new I got screwed.

It gets better! I get the truck back a few days later and went to change the oil. I looked under the truck and they hadnt put on the new dust shield I had been promised. So I started looking at the transmission and the $1200 seal kit he alleged he was putting in and the seal kit for the shift mechanism also had not been changed either! What else didnt they do because my truck ran fine when I took it in.

I went down and confronted the owner, he swore they did all the work, I demanded he put it up on the lift and look with me. Much to his surprise I was right! He asked his mechanic why he didnt do the work and he said because it was a pain to change and mine wasnt leaking at the time so he didnt do those shaft seals. I said well they were in the kit I paid for the work to be done I want it done.

The owner agreed to do it and apologized. I brought the truck back a few days later they removed the transmission again showed me that they put new internal parts in and proceeded to put the transmission back together.

two days later I got the truck back, as I was driving out of the parking lot I had trouble putting the truck in gear, but it was after 5, we were going away and needed to leave and they were closing up.I got to the first traffic ight and the truck stalled, I got to the second light it stalled again. I called the owner and told him what happened. He said to drive it a thousand miles and they would adjust everything at that time.

Every time I drive the truck it stalls whenever I stop, the owner refuses to fix the problem and has also since told me that he refuses to honor the warranty or do any further work on the vehicle. They keep trying to say that there are other problems with the truck. I took my truck to my mechanic numerous times and he has gone through it and agrees that they had done something wrong and that there was nothing wrong with my truck literally the day before I took it to them he had serviced the truck and now they cant get it to run the transmission is a disaster nothing was adjusted right I caught them not installing parts I had paid for and they are completely dishonest.

Beware of slick talking Chris at AAMCO transmissions in Pearl River NY they are absolute flim flam artists and you cannot believe a word they say nor can you trust there work and they stand behind nothing they do, if they even do any work at all or just say they did.

RIP OFF!

Took my sons vehicle there 3 weeks ago and was told it would cost $150 to fix and what the problem was. ZERO customer service from this company at all. We called on the promised repair day and was told oh it's not done yet. This went on for 3 weeks. We charged in the door today and said you have 1 hour to fix it or we are taking it. Suddenly it was done. This owner was nasty, rude and scammed us. His bill claims Diagnotstic fee, Wiring Harness internal, fluid, 2- diagnostic solve trans range sensor wiring problem,2- diagnostic solce pcm wiring problem to tcm, 2-diagnostic solve internal wiring harness problem, labor to replace harness No parts, no repairs NOTHING! Total bill was $500 and the truck isn't any different than the day we brought it there. When asked for the old parts we were told they didn't have them. When asked for part numbers he couldn't provide them, had to call a Ford dealer to provide us with one. When we drove the truck that was supposedly fixed for 10 miles the issue and lights came back. I demanded a refund and was told NO! Filing a claim with Attorney General and AAMCO Corporation. When I called the corporate care line I was given a run around. THIS COMPANY IS A RIP OFF!

That is my experience to the T with the exception I had to bring it back because the problem return which leads me to believe I spent $2300 for my car to be in storage three weeks and that does not include rental car expenses. Absolutely ridiculous.

.

Never again. Complete RIP OFF and I am totally PISSED OFF!

Me and my husband brought my 2007 chevy cobalt to the AAMCO Transmission at 1904 East FM 1960 BYPASS Humble,Tx 77338 to correct the problem with the engine light being on.The Owner Jay Streckfus kept my car for three and a half weeks without correcting the problem. We had to call him to get an update on it and the lady Sharon and him would give us the run around. When we went to get my car me and my husband ask the mechanic which of them worked on my car and they would say to talk with jay.He act as if he correct the problem but he didn't he also lied and said he change the oxygen sensor my husband looked under the hood and saw the lie he told us as if we were stupid or something. We want our refund back because he didn't correct it and don't feel comfortable going there with all the lies that was told to us.Not to mention keeping my car for almost a month and if we wouldn't have call he was not bothering to call us.My husband ask him to show us the parts the mechanic so call took off and he gave us a lame excuse that the mechanic did away with it.We called the corporate office and talked with a Ms. Smith and sent her information pertaining to my car on 8-23-2013 and now awaiting on a response. We really need you to intervene I'm afraid to drive my car i believe they did something to the transmission because it jerks while driving and when i come to a stop it wasn't like that before. Our name is Mr.Kerry&Sandra Patton (832)499-**** or(832)499-****.

They Broke My Windshield

"I don't like your *** mouth, get out. You just came here to call me a liar." The last words I heard from Damian before he stormed out of his office and went to hide in the work bays. I had taken my son's Murano in to have the oil changed and ended up losing the vehicle over the Memorial Day weekend because I was foolish enough to trust them to get the correct part to repair the power steering. Ends up that the replacement part was the wrong one and the only other available part was on the east coast and two days away. So, they kept it over the long weekend. (Wonder how the rest of the west coast Murano owners fare when they need parts?) When my son picked the vehicle up, the windshield was broken... Didn't ask them to pay for it, just wanted to know how it happened. Damian said he would review the security tapes and let me know. Never called, but said he did. Don't know about yours, but my cell phone offers voicemail and call history. Nothing. I went back down today to inquire and he didn't remember me or anything about the incident. But, his memory improved the more he talked. "Impossible" was the word he purportedly received from Nissan concerning whether the stress from the lift could've caused the crack. "we haven't broken a windshield in 40 years" was his next statement. I asked if he had worked there 40 years... Reply indicated he had not but his boss had owned it for a long time. Then he told me they had (miraculously) security cameras that had zoomed in on the windshield while on the lift and after it was back in the lot. No cracks. When I asked to see the footage, it wasn't there & wasn't available for me to view. When I said I didn't think I believed that, he became verbally abusive(see first paragraph) and stormed out. Forgot one scene... He offered to pay for half the windshield & I told him I didn't want his money, I just wanted someone to look me in the eye and apologize. When he stormed out, he said in addition to everything else, that "I'm not paying for half of your *** windshield, get out."

Aamco's EXTREMELY RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP!!

I had my 2002 Honda Odyssey serviced in Chicago at the Western location, which is at least 40 miles from my home. I was offered a 2 year warranty for my transmission, So I excepted it. Well here I am today with a car that won't move. So I contacted the western location, asking for my car to be serviced at a location closer to my home. Which there is 1 in Waukegan, which is only 10 mins from my home. Plus its 5 min from where my car broke down. However the manager and the NEW OWNER to the western location was not invested in helping me. I explained that I didn't understand what the big deal was, seeing that I was going to another branch of Aamco's? So I called the International Customer Service number, And what a HUGE MISTAKE THAT WAS!!! The women said her name was 'Lashet!' The first words out of her mouth was " I ain't got time for games!! WOE!! What kind of Customer Service people talk like that?? Well apparently Aamco's!! Then I explained my situation to her and she continued to be RUDE. And told me that it was not her fault 'If I did not sit down and read the fine print on the back. She even told me that I had a Year to DO SO! I told her that first of all I trusted the People at Aamco since it is a well established business. Well JOKES ON ME I GUESS! So she then did not want to hear a thing I was saying and Cut me short by telling me to ' HAVE A NICE DAY!! It was so, Like *** i WILL NEVER RECOMMEND OR GO BACK TO A Aamco again!!! What a shame cause I really did like the Manager at the Waukegan location. He at least listened and was willing to help.

Service that was not done in timely fashion

Updated by user May 20, 2013

I'm scared to find out what Aamco will do to my car after putting in a complaint. I found so many unhappy people here I'm sick of Aamco. They should be out of business.

Original review May 20, 2013
My car (1998 Audi A4 with a 2005 engine, auto body & interior mint condition) is with Aamco in Staten Island NY for over 2 years now. It was original brought in for transmission issues and for the transmission to be aligned with the new engine $3527.36 if needed I have the original work order #104559. The only thing positive is Aamco allowed me to make payments over time because I was unemployed. Early last year my boyfriend at the time thought he would have full payment and “R” the employee at Aamco told him to bring the funds in because the car was done. Unfortunately things fell through and the money wasn't there. So I continued to pay, then for 4 months I didn't make payment to catch up on other bills. I received a letter in the mail stating "we need to make payment or I will be charged storage". I called “R” and we were able to make arrangements for payments. Finally this year I was able to pay my bill in full, this was 4 weeks ago. Now I'm thinking “yes I can get my car”, wrong. I'm being told the "TCM" need to be changed because it’s not allowing the transmission to shift. “R” gave me a price of $892.78, guaranteed rebuilt. I paid half and the other half is to be paid when the part is installed. Over 3 weeks ago I paid the other half and still no car. I was told they had to take the transmission out because the drum was not allowing the car to shift, that made me think so why did you say that was the fault of the "TCM" I was tricked into paying for something I didn't need. I told him okay to the drum excuse wait a week it will be ready. Again I call to pickup my car, now I'm being told the speed sensor is giving my car trouble and now I have electrically issues too. The electrical issues I'm not surprised because the technicians left my windows open for so long that spiders ,pollen, and dirt blankets the inside of my car (they had no respect for my property). “R” said that wouldn't cause the problem. I think that is how my TCM may have got damaged if it was really damaged at all. “R” told me I should be patient and be glad they will fix my issues, plus they didn't charge me storage. Storage? You can't charge me that on a car that was never fixed (according to a posting in the office, company will not charge storage fee until 48 hours after car is completely finished). If my transmission was fixed when it first came to the shop 2 years ago why would the drum be broken if the car can't be driven??? If the car can't be driven because of the drum, then how can you tell me the "TCM" is the reason why the car can't shift??? I paid a total of $4420.14 on my car to be working perfectly, I still have nothing. Oh, he also told me the car has drainage areas that keep water from getting into the car, because they got full the water was able to get into my car and damage my "TCM". I must look so ***. The following problems I didn't have when I left my car: shifting, electrical, tail light wasn't broken; driver side rear bumper wasn't damaged, inside interior was not damaged plus windows open and close without problems. Guess what?? I now have these problems and I only brought my car in because of the transmission. I advise all consumers bring a mechanic friend with you or record all verbal transactions with these guys because they will ***. I have waiting now 5 weeks for my car and still nothing. Spoke to corporate and BBB hopefully I will get some help soon. Yes, I notified “Help me Howard”. I’m sure Aamco would love the negative publicity they will be getting. “R” from the Aamco in Staten Island NY also told me I was going to get my car last week in front of a witness. That witness can’t believe his word was not truth. All I ask for is my car and my money back so I can take it to someone that can get the job done in a timely fashion.

This shop gave me the worst experience of my life, their front man Dennis will baffle you with bull until you have a headache. They will quote you one price rip your tranny out then drop a bomb on you in the order of 1200 more.

You can always have your tranny reinstalled for 1100 dollars LMAO. Do not use these guys, I know transmission work is expensive but this crew is dishonest including the owner Patricia Schneider. Hey Pat have you ever heard the phrase the customer is always right? Probably not if you were in the hospitality Biz your net promotor score would be in the toilet.

Remember this those of you who have transmission issues(let the buyer beware).

Dont use them there are other worthy reviews on line this isnt sour grapes just a very dissatisfied customer. They never tried to make it right to me that means they dont give a *** and are just waiting for the next victim

I agree. I had the same experience.

Pat has no integrity and Dennis is out of his mind. They give me the run around about my car. Who cares if my tires have wear on them, tell me what's mechanically wrong with my car!!!! In the end they couldn't tell me what was wrong with my car.

A waste of time!!!

I will never go back there either. All they want to do is take people's money at any cost!

Horrendous Repair Workmanship

April 18, 2011, I paid Inglewood AAMCO $2,465.93 to fix my transmission. When AAMCO returned my car, the car was leaking transmission fluid and still kicking hard at 30 and 50 miles per hour. In the process of fixing my transmission, mechanic and owner informed me of other work they found that needed attention. I paid for all other work as I was told the needed work was urgent. Of course, in the meantime, my transmission continued to leak and kick. I repeatedly took my car back to AAMCO. They have the records to prove the number of times I've taken my car back to them over and over and over again. I once took my car to them and was given a loaner for an entire month while they worked on my transmission. And subsequently, every time I took my car back it was for the transmission fluid leak and hard kicking at 30 and 50 mph. In a whole month, they couldn't stop the transmission fluid from leaking out. Another thing I noticed was their inability to retain mechanics. My car was worked on by no less than--if not more than--4 different mechanics. A friend of mine once worked for this particular AAMCO shop and was told he would be let go if he couldn’t keep his uniform clean. My friend told me the owner was more concerned with dirt on the mechanic's uniform than he was with workmanship. My friend checked my car out for me, and one of the things he found was that the wiring had been completely messed up. He said I needed a new wiring-harness due to the carnage AAMCO made of the wires. Oh, and lying on his back, on the ground, under my car, outside of my house, my friend stopped the transmission leak, late last summer, 2012. My last encounter with AAMCO happened when I, again, took my car in for kicking and leaking (prior to friend fixing leak). They kept my car for about a week, making me pay for a rental car. My car was then returned to me with over-heating problems. My car had no over-heating problems prior to or throughout my AAMCO experience until that day. Without the owner's knowledge, the mechanic told me to bring my car back in, and in less than 60 seconds (knowing he had caused the over-heating problem), he went directly to the problem and corrected it. AAMCO use to offer a life-time warranty. Now they only offer an 18 month warranty, keeping you coming back over and over until the warranty is no longer effective. I was told, in a most snooty manner, that I was "extended every courtesy." Well, I would prefer AAMCO keep their courtesy and just fix my transmission for which they were paid $2,465.93. I'm told that for that kind of money, I could have had a brand new transmission put into my 1994 Volkswagen Jetta, plus a rebuilt engine. These guys do shoddy, sloppy, careless, reckless, unprofessional work, taking your money while the owner smiles and offers you "every courtesy." Today I've found that due to the kicking and jolting my transmission has been doing since I first went to AAMCO (and then leaving on a bad note) that all the transmission fluid leaked out of my car overnight and will not hold any new fluid. It just pours straight out as it’s poured in. I'm lodging my complaints with AAMCO's corporate office and with the California Attorney General's office. My advice to anyone looking at AAMCO for transmission work: Save yourself the aggravation and take your car to a place that cares more about their work than the dirt on their workmen's uniforms. In these poor economic times of job scarcity, what exactly does it take to keep a good mechanic? It's likely that at AAMCO, the mechanic that starts the work on your car will not be the same mechanic finishing said work. Who exactly can you hold accountable--other than the owner? He knows absolutely nothing about the work his mechanics perform. Well, now that I've spent $2,465.93 for the repair of my car, I find myself taking the bus to work.

So called free check no

Towed my trailblazer in to get a free check-up at aamco and they told me they couldn't read any codes and needed to pull the transmission off so they could find the problem. Told them I would be up there to get my car and they said I owe $450 for labor for taking off my transmission to see what the problem. So now they tell me I need another transmission and a bunch of other so called problems all costing a whopping $2600 or more. The thing is what just happened to my free check up? Also tried calling the corporate office and they direct you to or the nearest AAMCO in your area which is the one I'm having problems with.....

Don't trust Aamco in Butler, NJ

Had the trans on our Windstar rebuilt less than three years and 22000 miles ago. At the time Jamie talked us into an additional $1000 for "upgraded parts". Recently had the o/d light flash so we brought it in to get it checked and figured we would get a trans service done while it was there. After a few days go by with no call, we contact them and Jamie gives us a list of things that should be fixed that have probably ruined the transmission again based on codes from the computer. The list included things like low battery voltage (the battery had recently been replaced) and a brake light failure (also recently replaced) then goes on to tell me that the torque converter lockup is somehow controlled by the right rear brake light on Fords. At no time would he give me an estimate of what it would cost to fix any of this including the transmission that would need to be rebuilt to repair "something electrical inside". I tell him I don't want him to touch anything on the car and I will have it checked out somewhere else and he says I should come pick it up. Less than a half hour later we get there to pick it up, and Mike and Jamie disappear into the back rather than try to explain anything further. We check the van and notice they have run through over a quarter of the tank of gas. This is at least 100 miles of "test driving". When we bring this up to the girl at the counter, she immediately offers us $20 cash to cover the gas without putting up any argument whatsoever. Nothing to sign, keys are in the van, have a nice day. Seemed a little strange to us. So we get the van home which runs fine the whole way, and I plug in my code reader. Can't say it was much of a surprise at this point but there are no active codes. They may have read stored codes since the did seem to correlate with recent repairs, but still nothing related to the transmission. We will be taking the van to a reputable transmission shop to have the service done (the one we authorized Aamco to do but they never did) and see if they find anything wrong.
