My elderly dad took his 1976 Chev Bel-Air (22,000 original miles) to Aamco for a "free" inspection. I am a certified Goodwrench mechanic.

The shop pulled the tranny oil pan off and brought it to my dad to show him a pile of metal shavings they "found" in the pan. They said the car needed a new tranny. My dad called me and I met him at Aamco. The service manager showed me the pan shavings, and I knew right away what they were.

Next door to Aamco, was a brake shop. The shavings were from a brake rotor resurfacing machine. The shavings were in a neat little pile (obviously poured in). I told Aamco to put the pan back on and we left.

I cleaned out the shavings for dad. The only thing wrong with the tranny was the modulator vacuum line was disconnected.

Reconnected it and it is fine. DO NOT TRUST THESE CROOKS!!

Aamco in Bayside NY Rip-off Artists!

Took my car to Aamco thinking a mainstream company would help me. Turns out, they are absolute thieves! They took the transmission out of my car and left the car on the lift for 9 days! They did nothing but take out the part then put it right back in, but held the car hoping to *** me into using their services. They quoted me a price of over $4,000.00. Luckily I shopped around, though I still got hit with a $430.00 estimate fee! Found a transmission specialist who put in transmission & new clutch-kit. That plus all labor came out to $1,300.00. If you're reading this and need help deciding on where to go because you don't know how to deal with your transmission problem, do yourself a favor. Contact Sambucci brothers or George at Precision of Woodside. Also Petrillos Auto in New Haven Ct. for parts. Don't be conned into using the mainstream shysters at Aamco. You have other options. I learned the hard way. I hope this helps you.

I had transmission problems and just knew that it either had to be replaced or rebuilt. I shopped around for an estimate and AAMCO - Bayside were the only ones that would not give me one.

they said they had to inspect the car (5 point inspection or something like that).. I just wanted to know how much it would run me.. I was preparing myself to spend about $1,500.00/$2,000.00 on it but wanted to know there "worst case scenario" just to prepare myself... they wouldn't even give me a guestimate.

I gave in and let them tow my car. next day, they called me back... my car just needed some oil and gaskets. apparently, it was just leaking.

the real cost was the tow truck. so I see it like this... if they are really thieves, they could have charged me the $2,000.00 and I would have been clueless.

the total was less then $200.00.. $95 was the tow and the rest for servicing my transmission.

Follow-up for anonymous... You must work for aamco, because you've taken the same care in reading my post as aamco did in fixing my car.

The Sambucchi Brothers simply helped educate me on how to use web sites and smaller companies to fix my car professionally and for a fare price. They didn't sell me a transmission, just showed me the way. It's now six months after my saga.

I've driven almost 3,000 miles in that time and my "junk transmission" is in perfect working order. It also still has another six months left on the warranty...something aamco wouldn't have offered even with their rip-off rates.

Mainstream company??!! What the ____ were you thinking?

Big-name auto shops have been ripping off the public for decades. And Aamco is one of the very worst. But at least you had the sense to get out before they really nailed you. Aamco was once being investigated by 18 states at the same time for fraud.

Now that's hard to do but Scamco managed it. These big chains have a long history of undercover busts and big fines for their scamming and massive incompetence.

Take it as: live and learn. Now you know.

I worked at an AAMCO franchise in the late 1970's. The existence of the sales and rebuttal script is 100% true - at least back then. I've always regretted not snatching one of those 3-ring binders before I left.

Aamco transmission repairs..... not!

I paid 3600.00 for a transmission at Aamco in Merritt Island, FL and 9 months later the vehicle won't move. I was told that the "warranty" was 12 months or 12,000 miles. Since it would not go, I was told to take it to Aamco in Titusville,FL. I was told they "felt" bad and would only charge me $495.00 to remove it and diagnose. It went up to $695.00 a day later (apparently that "bad" feeling dissipated overnight). I am now being told it will cost me another 3400.00 to repair the transmission again. $7000.00 for a vehicle worth 6,000? Doesn't anyone have any ethics and/or morals? What does one do? Beware of AAMCO!!!!!

We told the customer that the vehicle was out of warranty by mileage but we would extend the warranty! The customer took his car to another center and then authorized the Titusville center to teardown the transmission for a fee when at our center it would have been covered for free!!!

The customer was told to bring the car back to our center so that we could cover the repair under warranty even though the car was OUT of warranty by mileage. He then went to another center and authorized a repair at that center after the manager there told him there would be a cost to perform that repair.

Once the warranty stipulations have been exceeded another Aamco center has the right to charge for the repairs on that vehicle!

We would have extended the warranty at our center to promote customer satisfaction. Once the customer signed an authorization to repair the vehicle at another center our hands were tied.

AAMCO Lauderhill FL has my car for a month!

I took my Mercedes in after they assured my they could rebuild the transmission. While my car was there it became unoperable due to a fuel problem they said and they cannot test drive it to check their work. My car was running fine and had no fuel problem whatsoever. I spoke to another mechanic at another shop and he told me the car needs to be reset and AAMCO doesn't invest in the necessary equipment to repair cars correctly. After one month I still don't have my car. I'm calling Help Me Howard at channel 7 news in Miami!!!

AAMCO - Transmission inoperable after less than 2 years!

In September of 2009 I had my transmission rebuilt in my Highlander for $4,654.51 at the AAMCO Flemington, NJ location. The owner/operator promised me my car and fell through on the delivery date. As I drove out of the shop, it was not operating correctly so I had to return the vehicle. They supposedly corrected the issue, however, the car never ran correctly and the service was so terrible I did not want to return. Now, less than 2 years later the transmission is doing the same thing and my car is not drivable. When I looked at my paperwork, I noticed there was an extended warranty I was not offered nor did I initial to decline. I am now taking it to another mechanic who I know and trust and who will install a new transmission with a 100,000 mile warranty. I am so dissatisfied I will tell everyone about my negative experience with AAMCO.

AGREEMENT WAS A TOTAL LIE. | Aamco review from Dickson, Tennessee

2767 N Dixie Hwy Wilton Manors, FL... Called Aamco to ask what is the range of money amount for a transmission repair. Raul said: "between $200 - $1200." The verbal agreement was they pay the tow truck to take it to the shop and if we do not repair it with them, we pay for the tow truck back. That was the ONLY agreement and nothing else was discussed. In repair shops, the ethical procedure is; if the amount is more, customer has to be informed in writing to accept or decline. Now these people say repair costs $2000; MORE THAN THE CAR IS WORTH AND MORE THAN A BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION! and if we don't repair with them, they keep the car. They want $500 to return the car. Or they will give me the car, but THEY KEEP THE TITLE. They are stealing cars. that is not the way to do business; to say one price and come up with double the amount. There was no written estimate and the verbal estimate was a lie.
