Aamco review in Tampa, Florida: Will not give price over phone.

I called an Aamco Center and asked them how much to rebuild my transmission. After listening for over a minute to what sounded like a script being read the guy told me it was $500.00 to tear it down and see what was wrong with it. When I asked for worse case scenario I go more script. Junk about Aamco being in business for 50 years and the number one shop for transmission repair. If such is true, why can't they tell me worse case scenario which obviously would mean buying a reman unit. Instead, they wanted to hook me for $500.00 to tell me what it would cost. If you have been doing this for 50 years, you should know average prices for a rebuild. This whole thing is a scam to stick you with repairing it. My issue is the car is old and maybe not worth fixing. I did not want to spend $500.00 to decide whether or not to fix it when 3 other transmission shops gave me a ball park of high and low range for my car, which I got rid of due to cost of repair being too high. If someone is an expert, they should be able to tell you the cost range of repair. Aamco must not be the experts they claim to be.

So NO ONE gave you prices, instead, they gave you a range, and because the prices of repairs were outside your budget, you decided to get mad at a mechanic who wanted to give you one accurate estimate? Yes, these guys will pay for being crooks (sarcasm).

By the way, the worst case scenario is having to take it to the dealership (reman unit).

With three other estimates, it really seems like you had all of the information you needed to make an informed decision... why are you singling out this one mechanic?

Aamco review in Tampa, Florida: Car held RANSOM

I took my car to a local repair shop to have the transmission looked at. Please keep in mind that I never signed anything with them. I was never in their shop until after I tried to get my car back. It was all done over the phone. I had it towed to their shop from the local VW dealer. They said on the phone that, " they would quote me a price and if I didn't want to have it repaired then I would only owe them for the tow." They quoted me $1400 on the phone, give or take $300 depending on a part. I gave the go ahead to do it at that price "on the phone". They call back the next day and say its going to be $4000. I can't afford that. Then they say," we have your engine in pieces, so you will need to pay for the labor, $900 to put the car back together or $500 to put the parts in the trunk. I never signed anything with them. I was never in their shop until after I tried to get my car back. It was all done over the phone. It's been 3 months. I can't file a bond because I don't have an invoice. mtownsend2002@yahoo.com

Aamco review in Tampa, Florida: Transmission

AAMCO was TERRIBLE. The man told me that my transmission would cost $1600 and that it was a good deal considering that there were transmissions done for $2100...after I told him I would think about it becuase that is ridiculously expensive, he offered to buy my car...Later on I came to find out that it wasn't even my transmission that needed to be fixed it was my exaust...SHITTIEST SERVICE EVER. The man lied about my transmission needing to be done & when i was upset about the high price he offered to buy it (knowing that it would only cost him about 300 to get what needed to be done, done.) Worst service ever.

Can not speak More Kindly about Aamco in Tampa. There is reason they won Customer Service Award.

One anonymous Pissed Off Customer should not even be given credence. Probably written by a competitor.

Aamco

Took my car in for the Free AC inspection since it wasn't working. They told me that they found the problem it would only be $100-150 but would need the car for 2 hours. Dropped it off the next day and they called 20 minutes later saying "bad news" you need a new fuse box and wiring for a new price of over $400! I told them how could it have gone from $100-150 to over $400 just like that! I told them do not touch it and came and got it. I had a buddy of mine who know's AC and said it was the computer system in that there was too much Freon so it kicked the system off at the fuse box. He took a screwdriver and let some Freon out and problem solved. Got ice cold air working fine. Had nothing to do with a fuse box or wiring. I called Aamco back to tell them how pissed I was and the guy at the front desk said sorry my mechanic simply missed that....how many times a day to they miss stuff!! Complete and utter THEIVES they are at Aaamco!!

Aamco ripoff

I had a transmission rebuilt by them 15 months ago. And guess what!!! That's right it's out again. And I did not buy the extended warranty. When I first took it in I asked what was the most it would cost. They gave me a price I agreed and a day later they came back with sorry but it's going to cost an additional $600.00. Now they are telling me that a random misfire in the engine caused the problem. And it's going to cost $300 for plugs and wires plus repairs to the transmission. I had the car towed to another shop.
